Electricidade de Mocambique Pemba Substation

The project provides important stabilisation of the power supply to Pemba City supporting the ongoing development of industry and the associated growth of employment in Northern Mozambique. 

Electricidade de Moçambique (EdM) placed a contract on the Portuguese contractor Painhas S.A. for upgrade works at the Pemba substation, who subsequently contracted RXHK for the supply of a ±15Mvar STATCOM. This is to support the increased voltage at the Pemba end of the 110kV overhead line feeding Pemba City in Northern Mozambique, allowing an increased real power transfer to support the increasing activity within the Pemba area, which includes the increase in activity at the Pemba port related to export of mined materials. Installation works took place in Q2 2024, with the scope of work including design and supply of a containerised STATCOM, instillation supervision and commissioning.

The project was successfully commissioned in April 2025.
