Carrapateena Mine

132kV, 2 x ±15Mvar

OZ Minerals has used RXHK STATCOM Technology on two of it’s underground mining sites in South Australia, including Carrapateena Mine. Both mines are near to BHP Olympic Dam with similar network challenges.

• New development of high grade copper/gold
• 50MW load on very weak long 132kV connection
• RXHK supplied dynamic reactive compensation scheme including 2 x 15Mvar 11kV STATCOMs + 4 x 10Mvar detuned capacitor banks with associated switchgear
• STATCOMs provide voltage control of the 132kV network to stabilise the system
• STATCOMS now operational during mine start-up process.
